Our Story
Our Daily Bread is a local food bank that has faithfully served the disadvantaged of Tangipahoa Parish since 1999. It is our mission to alleviate hunger and make an eternal impact by sharing kindness and compassion with everyone who is in need. We were founded when local social workers and pastors established a committee to help desperate families. Initially, only 30 volunteers served 99 families, but today we have grown to assisting over 3,000 families each month. In 2011, operations and services were greatly improved with the purchase and renovation of a 6,000 square foot warehouse/office. In 2013, we added a walk in cooler and freezer with a capacity to hold 15 pallets each. In 2015, with a generous grant from Walmart we purchased a refrigerated truck to increase food rescue and distribution efforts. In 2017, we were able to renovate another 6,000 square foot building to include a commercial kitchen and dining area that provides hundreds of hot meals to the community each week.
We have now grown exponentially with a team of part time staff members and over 20,000 volunteers each year. None of this would be possible without our dedicated volunteers and donors.
