Become a Volunteer

Our Daily Bread is able to serve the community through 26 local pantries and over 350 volunteers, including our Executive Director. Throughout the year, these volunteers contribute over 22,000 hours of service to Our Daily Bread Food Bank and our communities. We are able to serve our community because of our wonderful volunteers.

Here are descriptions for our Serve Team:

Food Store Team: help stock our new client choice food store by labeling cans with expiration dates and codes and stocking shelves. Also, if you would like to really make a positive impact you can work directly with clients assisting them picking out needed food items.
Administration Team: help our office team input data into our computer system. You can also help serve the clients who come in and need assistance.
Food Boxing Team: prepare food commodity boxes for satellite and mobile pantry sites.
Food Prep Team: help our kitchen staff prepare the hot meals that are served at the Hand of Hope Buildings on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Warehouse Team: Help sort can goods after our big deliveries, so that we can distribute them quickly to people in need.
Cleaning Team: help us clean and organize our building.

Warehouse volunteers help us to unload trucks with donated food. They also help us to pack out food for our different pantries. Warehouse volunteers usually serve during regular office hours - which are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday from 8AM until 2PM.

We currently host 27 pantries that are facilitated through local churches. These pantries generally come to our warehouse to collect food, then travel back to their church to pack boxes. One day per month, these pantries open their churches to their clients to pick up food boxes.

Hot Meal Sites & Cook Team

Volunteers come together on Sundays and Wednesdays to prepare and distribute hot meals to residents of Amite. Serve team volunteers cook and/or distribute the meals at two locations - St. Helena Catholic Church in Amite and Little Bethel Church in Amite.
